Your Truth, Your Wisdom.

I’m Teri Potter, a Mother, a trauma-informed guide and the founder of S.A.F.E. Practice™.

My work is rooted in both personal and generational healing.  I grew up in a home where emotions were rarely spoken and learned early to stay safe by detaching from what I felt.  That early disconnection grew the roots of my later work - a search for truth, authenticity, presence and belonging - which has guided my whole life.

Years later, when my highly-sensitive daughter fell into crisis, that buried history of mine erupted into the present.  Her pain drew me straight back into my own and what began as a desperate scouring for answers and solutions turned into a sacred invitation and path of awakening.  I learned that healing begins when we slow down, turn inward and make space for what’s real.  I discovered that presence was the answer to every question.  I am now devoted to the spaces where truth is spoken gently, where presence is always enough and where we remember together that nothing in us needs fixing to be whole.

Alongside lived experience, my work has been shaped by study with teachers whose wisdom continues to ground me.  Dr. Shefali Tsabary in Conscious Parenting™, Dr. Gabor Maté in Compassionate Inquiry™, Dr. Richard Schwartz in Internal Family Systems™ and the timeless teachings of enlightened sages including Ramana Maharshi, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, Adyashanti, and various Dzogchen Masters who point us home to awareness itself.

My daughter, whose pain first awakened my path, is thankfully still here - walking this earth with me.  She’s thriving and still navigating a world that is 'too big, too fast' for our children.  She wants her story shared, to help others like her, who sometimes feel that this world is too much.  Now 18 years old, she continues to inform and oversee my work.

Today I share talks, meditations, and ‘SAFE™’…  a trauma-informed practice, borne from our lived experience, for parents of children who are struggling with suicidal thoughts or self-harm.

‘SAFE™' is an acronym… four touchstones:  Safety Check, Arise, Feel-don’t-Fix and Exhale.  It’s helping parents and communities rediscover safety, awareness, and connection.

I'm trained in a number of different psyhotherapeutic approaches and methods and specialise in supporting parents whose children are struggling, helping them to slow down, reconnect and find what’s true for them and their family.

People mostly seek me out to explore the following...

Restoring Safety and Connection for Parents/Caregivers and Young People
Becoming Undefended in Relationship

‘On Navigating the Abyss’
Podcast

Catherine and I both trained in Compassionate Inquiry (Dr Gabor Maté) and Conscious Parenting (Dr Shefali Tsabary) and both of us have come to this work because our own children brought us here.  We understand that they came to show us what we need to learn and boy, it’s a lot!  So we have the kind of conversations here about the stuff that just keeps showing up in our relationships with our young people, some of it extremely challenging and the every day stuff too.  It’s another way to share some of the tools and perspectives we’ve gathered over the years and hopefully it will help others too, to know we’re all in it together.

This brought so much connection.   Real stories from real people who’ve gone through some stuff.  They just happen to be super talented too and want to talk about how music got them through and they wanted to talk to us... Team Potter!!!
